She also beat out hundreds of applicants to become the 2016–2017 Associates of the Boston Public Library Writer-​in-​Residence, where she worked on her first and second YA novels. Along the way, she earned a BA in creative writing from the Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins and an MFA in creative writing (poetry) from Boston University.
